Started in 2014 by the National Institutes of Health, the National Biosafety and Biosecurity Month is a period during which institutions are encouraged to reinforce their attention to biosafety and biosecurity practices, policies, and procedures. Every October we celebrate Biosafety Month at the University of Miami with
. As we did last year, this year we will be announcing Lab of the Year awards, announcing a winning lab for each of our main 3 campuses (Gables, Medical, & Marine) during our annual Biosafety Month seminar. This year we’re expanding that process by taking in nominations from you! So if you want to nominate a lab for the Lab of the Year award, send an email to biosafety@miami.edu and let us know which lab you’d like to nominate and, just as importantly, why you think they’re worthy of receiving the award. Nominations are due by September 30th at Noon.
But we’re also looking forward to distributing more awesome prizes and more free food this year. Please see the tentative schedule of events below.

• October 25th – Lunch & Learn Safety Presentation on the Marine Campus
All sessions are free to attend, and all Lunch & Learn Safety Presentations will feature free food in addition to an opportunity to win a prize! We’ll provide more details on the Lunch & Learn sessions in October, with a full list of events posted on the EHS Biosafety page by October 1st.
